Communist Party of Turkey: "In Syria, Israel and the USA have won a temporary victory using the jihadists"

On the occasion of the fall of Damascus in the hands of the armed jihadists and the alleged overthrow of the Assad government, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) issued the following statement:


"The plan put into effect by the US imperialism and the reactionary forces in the region about 15 years ago in order for the disintegration of Syria has succeeded as of yesterday. The jihadist forces mobilised by the USA, Israel, Britain and the AKP government overthrew the Syrian government in a short period of one week.


Peace and stability will not come to Syria as they claim. On the contrary, in Syria, where massacres, occupations, looting and plundering, endless conflicts have been taking place for years, the era of barbarism will be opened as the last remaining point that restrained all these, even if only a little, has been eliminated.

The winner of this picture is Israel for the time being. It has been proved once again that the Israeli issue is not a matter of religion. Jihadist groups and Israel have seized Syria by working in great harmony. The AKP government is the element that ensures this harmony.

Israel’s victory is the victory of US imperialism.

All the ‘winners’ in Syria today are allies of the US and Israel. Maybe there will be bloody clashes between the ‘winners’, maybe the ‘harmony’ witnessed in the field for a week will be established by the US.

However, US ‘peace’ is always bloody, always prone to new conflicts. Peace, stability and tranquility in Syria can only be established when imperialism and the jihadists are defeated.

A resistance against imperialism and Zionism will certainly emerge in Syria. That this resistance acts without relying on other international powers, with a revolutionary perspective, defending secularism and being unifying, depends to some extent on the developments in Turkey.

In Syria, Israel and the USA have won a temporary victory using the jihadists.

We appeal to all our citizens. This is not a game. If we care about our country and our future, we need to talk about how to stand up and get rid of this barbarism and do the necessary. What is happening in Syria is proof of what sectarianism, religionism, nationalism and relying on foreign powers can lead to.

Turkey must change if it is to continue to exist. There can be no unity in a country where exploitation, inequality and injustice are rife.

After the developments in Syria, it is essential to restrain the excitement of the Neo-Ottomanist circles who dream of ‘expansion’. This Neo-Ottomanist approach not only means attempting to cover up exploitation, inequality and injustice with conquestism, but also leads to the enactment of a plan that will lead to the disintegration of Turkey.

Our country and our citizens are facing a great test. Either we will defeat the exploitative, religious, Americanist mentality that has brought our country to the brink of the cliff, or we will tumble into that cliff.

There is no bright horizon for Syria. The fall of Assad’s regime may signal the end of one form of tyranny, but what lies ahead is a grim repetition of exploitation. Imperialist powers, circling like vultures, are poised to replace one exploitative system with another one that, like Assad’s, will thrive on the backs of Syria’s workers while serving foreign interests.
For decades, the workers the true lifeblood of this country have built its cities, tilled its fields, and fueled its economy, yet they remain voiceless, stripped of power and dignity.
Even now, in this supposed "new dawn," there is no sign that the future belongs to them. Instead, it seems destined to repeat the same cycles of exploitation, wrapped in new slogans and false promises.
Unless the workers awaken to their collective strength, Syria will remain a playground for imperialists and capitalist elites. Without unity and action, the dreams of freedom, justice, and sovereignty will crumble under the weight of betrayal once again. The question is no longer if the workers can rise it’s whether they’ll recognize the urgency of doing so before it’s too late.
Yet, amidst this despair, there lies a spark of possibility a chance for Syria’s workers, students, and intellectuals to reshape the narrative. By raising the banners of Palestine and socialism, they can ignite new flames of hope and lay the foundations for revolutionary change. These symbols are not just aspirations; they represent the solidarity, justice, and resistance that can unify the progressive forces of Syria against both imperialism and reactionary chaos.
This is no idle dream. If reactionary religious/imperialist forces can exploit the turmoil to project their strength, why should progressive forces those who stand for equality, liberation, and a future beyond oppression not do the same? A world ready to rally behind their cause exists.
The workers of the world, the oppressed, can all stand as allies.
It is time to build those red resistance to organize against the chaos, and to reclaim Syria not as a pawn of imperialist or reactionary forces, but as a beacon of struggle and hope for the oppressed everywhere.

The fall of the Assad government was decided and planned in Washington, Tel Aviv and Ankara, not in Syria.

The US, UK, NATO, Türkiye and Israel armed, financed, trained and directed the jihadists who took over Damascus for more than a decade.
It is clear that rule by these groups will not bring peace and reconciliation to Syria. It is far more likely to lead to escalating sectarian violence, a failed state, millions of refugees, and further destabilisation of the entire region. And, as in the case of Libya, the imperialist powers and monopolies will use this opportunity to plunder the oil wealth.

These refugees will be demonised and attacked by the same states that supplied the weapons to the jihadists who forced them to flee. When you export weapons, you import refugees. Yet Keir Starmer has hailed the jihadist victory in Syria, saying that “stopping the boats” [carrying migrants across the Channel] is his top priority.

Solidarity with the Syrian people at this time, especially with ethnic and religious minorities, women and our comrades from the Syrian Communist Party (Baghdash) and the Syrian Communist Party (Unified) who are likely to face violence and repression from the jihadists.

In view of the tragic events unfolding in Syria, a country that for more than ten years has been the scene of one of the most fierce and heroic battles against imperialism and the reactionary forces destabilising the region, the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) issues the following statement.

The takeover of Damascus by an Islamist terrorist group means the fall of the Syrian government and the disappearance of a multi-confessional, secular state, a key ally in the anti-imperialist resistance in the Middle East. It is a crushing blow to progressive and leftist forces around the world.

This situation could mean not only the disappearance of a sovereign state, but also the collapse of a stronghold of resistance to powers seeking to impose their dominance over the region.

The new scenario that is emerging in Syria is that of a failed state, a power vacuum that could turn into another laboratory of chaos, as happened in Libya.

The intervention of powers such as Israel, the United States and Turkey in the conflict played a decisive role, further destabilising a region already suffering from the consequences of decades of imperialist interventions.

The resistance of the Syrian people, who fought for more than 13 years against a coalition of external forces and internal groups pursuing interests alien to national sovereignty, was heroic.

But in recent weeks, that resistance has suffered a serious blow, and Syria's struggle for survival is entering a new phase, with hopes of recovery looking increasingly distant.

The brutal economic blockade imposed by the US and EU has had a devastating impact on the economy and daily lives of Syrians. Added to this is the exhaustion caused by continuous Israeli bombing and Turkey’s continued support for Salafist groups operating inside the country, which has exacerbated the suffering of the population and left the country in a highly vulnerable position.

It is imperative to preserve the territorial integrity of Syria and prevent a de facto partition of the territory between Turkey, Israel, Kurdish communities and Gulf-backed Sunni fundamentalism. Failure to do so will result in a new failed state that will further destabilise the region with a high risk of a global military conflict.

The US authorisation of Ukraine to use US long-range missiles against Russia, the US-sanctioned and US-sponsored offensive by Islamist groups in Syria are steps in the US Democratic Party's militaristic escalation aimed at increasing global military tensions in the last month of Biden's presidency in order to make a period of military détente between the US, Russia and China as difficult as possible.

Throughout history, the Syrian people have demonstrated their strength and resilience, and we are confident that sooner or later this situation will change for the better.

As in other cases, the struggle of the Syrian people is not only the struggle of Syria, but also of all the peoples of the world fighting for justice, sovereignty and peace.
