On the occasion of the fall of Damascus in the hands of the armed jihadists and the alleged overthrow of the Assad government, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) issued the following statement:


"The plan put into effect by the US imperialism and the reactionary forces in the region about 15 years ago in order for the disintegration of Syria has succeeded as of yesterday. The jihadist forces mobilised by the USA, Israel, Britain and the AKP government overthrew the Syrian government in a short period of one week.


Peace and stability will not come to Syria as they claim. On the contrary, in Syria, where massacres, occupations, looting and plundering, endless conflicts have been taking place for years, the era of barbarism will be opened as the last remaining point that restrained all these, even if only a little, has been eliminated.

The winner of this picture is Israel for the time being. It has been proved once again that the Israeli issue is not a matter of religion. Jihadist groups and Israel have seized Syria by working in great harmony. The AKP government is the element that ensures this harmony.

Israel’s victory is the victory of US imperialism.

All the ‘winners’ in Syria today are allies of the US and Israel. Maybe there will be bloody clashes between the ‘winners’, maybe the ‘harmony’ witnessed in the field for a week will be established by the US.

However, US ‘peace’ is always bloody, always prone to new conflicts. Peace, stability and tranquility in Syria can only be established when imperialism and the jihadists are defeated.

There is no bright horizon for Syria. The fall of Assad’s regime may signal the end of one form of tyranny, but what lies ahead is a grim repetition of exploitation. Imperialist powers, circling like vultures, are poised to replace one exploitative system with another one that, like Assad’s, will thrive on the backs of Syria’s workers while serving foreign interests.
For decades, the workers the true lifeblood of this country have built its cities, tilled its fields, and fueled its economy, yet they remain voiceless, stripped of power and dignity.
Even now, in this supposed "new dawn," there is no sign that the future belongs to them. Instead, it seems destined to repeat the same cycles of exploitation, wrapped in new slogans and false promises.
Unless the workers awaken to their collective strength, Syria will remain a playground for imperialists and capitalist elites. Without unity and action, the dreams of freedom, justice, and sovereignty will crumble under the weight of betrayal once again. The question is no longer if the workers can rise it’s whether they’ll recognize the urgency of doing so before it’s too late.
Yet, amidst this despair, there lies a spark of possibility a chance for Syria’s workers, students, and intellectuals to reshape the narrative. By raising the banners of Palestine and socialism, they can ignite new flames of hope and lay the foundations for revolutionary change. These symbols are not just aspirations; they represent the solidarity, justice, and resistance that can unify the progressive forces of Syria against both imperialism and reactionary chaos.
This is no idle dream. If reactionary religious/imperialist forces can exploit the turmoil to project their strength, why should progressive forces those who stand for equality, liberation, and a future beyond oppression not do the same? A world ready to rally behind their cause exists.
The workers of the world, the oppressed, can all stand as allies.
It is time to build those red resistance to organize against the chaos, and to reclaim Syria not as a pawn of imperialist or reactionary forces, but as a beacon of struggle and hope for the oppressed everywhere.
