Vigilante violence

The unfolding crisis has triggered criticism from human rights groups who say the innocent civilians displaced by war should be sheltered. They say the refugees on the Turkey-Greece border, particularly children, remain vulnerable to harsh winter conditions and violence from border guards.

Eva Cosse, a researcher at Human Rights Watch with a focus on Greece, said her organization in the past two weeks has observed a "worrying increase" of violence by Greek police toward the refugees.

"The Greek government is saying that they are revising the possibility for people to apply for asylum. And having the leaders of the EU supporting Greece in what the government is doing is like giving a green light to commit abuses," Cosse told VOA.

Cosse added that the organization has also seen anti-refugee violence on the rise without criticism from EU and Greek politicians. She said locals have been attacking refugees, preventing boats from reaching shores and burning refugees' tents, among other acts. Humanitarian workers and journalists have also been targeted.

"We really hope that this time, Greece and the EU have learned from the past mistakes and from the way they dealt with the crisis in 2015. We hope that this time, they would show more solidarity and humanity. We believe that this the answer," Cosse said.

Σύμφωνα με τον ιστότοπο, Stonisi.gr, όλα δείχνουν πως η φωτιά στη δομή ήταν εμπρηστική ενέργεια. Στελέχη της Πυροσβεστικής, ανέφεραν πως δε λειτουργούσε τις τελευταίες 10 με 15 μέρες λόγω του κλίματος εναντίον των ΜΚΟ που είχε δημιουργηθεί, άρα δεν μπορεί να προήλθε από συσκευές που είχαν αφεθεί αναμμένες και άλλες χρήσεις όπως τσιγάρα κ.α. Τα άτομα που έβαλαν φωτιά είναι γνωστά στην τοπική αστυνομία

In the process, Mitsotakis captured much of the neo-fascist Golden Dawn party’s voter base. Since then his government has evicted refugee squats, promised to build a system of closed detention for holding and processing migrants, moved to speed up deportations, and even called for floating “walls” to be erected in the Aegean Sea.

But efforts by Mitsotakis’ New Democracy Party to build new detention centers in the Greek islands have sparked violent clashes and angry protests, whipped up by anti-immigrant local politicians who want to deport the thousands of people already seeking asylum there. Playing on local fatigue with a system that left asylum seekers to languish in the islands rather being redistributed across the EU, Golden Dawn and members of far right factions from around Europe have joined in to bolster these riots. Since Turkey opened its borders last week, mobs have targeted refugees, migrants, aid workers and journalists alike.

Here, along the land border, some local residents with far right sympathies are armed and say they are patrolling the frontier, while some journalists were beaten by a far right group after filming an attack on migrants.

Sitting in a bar called Café Hawaii near the Greek side of the frontier the Haharinis brothers Xrusafis, 35, and Tolis, 39, say they want the border closed and admit to taking action to ensure it is. They own farms nearby, say they have guns and are part of civilian patrols to catch people crossing.

“The farmers go help,” says Tolis, describing the local patrols as aiding the army and police. “They catch the people and call the police.”

Ή οι αριστεροσυνδικαλιστές της πυροσβετικής (που ανάθεμα κι αν έχον βγει απο τα γραφεία τους ποτέ κι αν έχουν ποτέ πιάσει μάνικα στο χέρι);

Τελικά η "απόδειξη" για τη ΧΑ είναι ενός άρθρο ενός ακροαριστερού δημοσιοκάφρου, ο οποίος εκτός απο τη ΧΑ βλέπει και..."ακροδεξιούς απο την Ευρώπη να συμμετέχουν"! Μιλάμε ο τύπος που επικαλείσαι είναι αλλού γι' αλλού!
