Foreign influence is not measured by the number of iPhones or the presence of Starbucks. It's about sovereignty.

In 1940, China wasn't a nation; it was a playground for foreign powers. British opium, Japanese bayonets, American gunboats, and a dozen imperialist forces carved it up like a corpse on the table.

That is what crushing foreign influence means.

A nation that chooses what it takes from the world is powerful. A nation with no choice is a colony. China in 1940 was the latter. China today is the former. China today decides for itself.

That is Mao's legacy. And that's why you laugh at what you don't understand.
