I think a clever troll system is to introduce the fake antitroll. The antitroll counters the troll so a debate can actually take place, but the antitroll is a lame sort of opponent or he is using the wrong kind of arguments.
For example the Putin troll says “invasion of Ukraine is good” and the fake antitroll replies with a “heil Hitler, heil Mussolini”.
Then the troll comes back and scores an easy win for Putin, since Hitler-Mussolini are bad guys.
There are more subtle things than that but this gross example illustrates the principle of operation.
There are other tricks besides: Such as the secondary troll or sub troll and also the method of “astroturfing” in which the original troll uses many identities to make us believe it’s a crowd and not just one troll.
In other forums of different style to that of Quora they also try to befriend you, by for example claiming they support the same football team as you do. In this way they soften up your resistance and make you behave they way they want. This one is a very old KGB trick really.
