Ήταν πολύ μαλακός ο Πρόεδρος, μετά την αποκάλυψη ότι υπάρχουν Αμερικανοί εκπαιδευτές στο νησί μας.
Προσωπικά βράζω, δεν μπορώ καν να φανταστώ πως νοιώθουν οι Κινέζοι πατριώτες. Πόσο ρηχές θα ακούγονται στ' αυτιά τους οι εκκλήσεις για υπομονή.

Not actually true, καταρχάς κανείς δεν μπορεί να "ανακυρήξει ΑΟΖ", η ΑΟΖ είναι συμφωνία μεταξύ πολλών κρατών.
Τα τεχνητά νησιά βοηθάνε στον de facto έλεγχο των ίδιων διεκδικήσεων, δεν μεταβάλλουν τις διεκδικήσεις.

Gone, too, are the middle school uniforms in military camouflage and the armored personnel carriers rumbling around the homeland of the Uyghurs. Gone are many of the surveillance cameras that once glared down like birds from overhead poles, and the eerie eternal wail of sirens in the ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar.

Uyghur teenage boys, once a rare sight, now flirt with girls over pounding dance music at rollerblading rinks. One cab driver blasted Shakira as she raced through the streets.

Four years after Beijing launched a brutal crackdown that swept up to a million or more Uyghurs and other mostly Muslim minorities into detention camps and prisons, its control of Xinjiang has entered a new era. Chinese authorities have scaled back many of the most draconian and visible aspects of the region’s high-tech police state. The panic that gripped the region a few years ago has subsided considerably, and a sense of normality is creeping back in.

Φυσικά το άρθρο συνεχίζει με ιστορίες "διακριτικής καταπίεσης". Αυτό σημαίνει ότι μάλλον το αφήγημα περί γενοκτονίας δεν το έπαιρνε κανείς στα σοβαρά οπότε τώρα το γυρίζουν στο oppressed minority που ξέρουν ότι κολλάει με όλα.

Σε 10 χρόνια οι Κινέζοι θα μπορούν να σχηματίσουν γέφυρα που θα ενώνει την ηπειρωτική Κίνα με την Ταϊβάν με τα αεροπλανοφόρα. Περισσότερες πιθανότητες επικράτησης είχαν οι ναζί το 1945 με τους Σοβιετικούς 40 χλμ από το Βερολίνο παρά η Ταϊβάν απέναντι στην Κίνα.

China fires hypersonic missile around globe before striking target

The US has been left stumped after China tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in August that circled the globe before speeding towards its target.

The hypersonic missile demonstrates an advanced space capability that caught US intelligence agencies by surprise, raising questions as to whether the US underestimates China's military capabilities.

The missile missed its target by about 24 miles, but demonstrated China has made progress on hypersonic weapons.

One of those briefed on the intelligence told the FT: "We have no idea how they did this."

The US, Russia and China are all developing hypersonic weapons, including glide vehicles such as the one tested by the Chinese.

Glide vehicle hypersonic missiles are launched into space on a rocket but orbit the earth under their own momentum.

They are capable of speeds five times the speed of sound and do not follow a fixed trajectory, making them hard to track.

They are launched at low trajectory, meaning they could reach targets more quickly than ballistic missiles despite having slower top speeds.

The Chinese embassy declined to comment, but spokesperson Liu Pengyu said China always pursued a military policy that was "defensive in nature" and its military development did not target any particular country.

Taylor Fravel, an expert on Chinese nuclear weapons policy said a hypersonic glide vehicle armed with a nuclear warhead could help China "negate" US missile defence systems which are designed to destroy incoming ballistic missiles.

The news comes as China continues to expands its military forces and nuclear capabilities and amid rising tensions in the region with Taiwan.

China flew a record number of jets in Taiwanese airspace on National Day on 1 October.

Tensions between the US and China have risen in recent years and show no sign of subsiding under the Biden administration, with China accusing Washington of being overly hostile.
