Ex-Kremlin official Vladislav Avayev, 51, found dead alongside wife, daughter inside their multi-million dollar apartment
The bodies of Vladislav Avayev, 51, his wife Yelena, 47, and their daughter Maria, 13, were found dead with gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide.
A former Kremlin official and ally of Vladimir Putin has been found dead alongside his wife and young daughter in their multi-million dollar Moscow apartment.
The bodies of Vladislav Avayev, 51, his ‘pregnant’ wife Yelena, 47, and their daughter Maria, 13, were found dead with gunshot wounds on Monday, according to Russian state media outlets.
The couple’s eldest daughter Annastasia, 26, reportedly made the grim discovery after she was unable to get in contact with her family.
Initial reports suggest Mr Avayev shot his family before he turned the gun on himself, but Russian police say they will investigate any potential links to his work and personal life.
A total of 13 weapons were reportedly found inside the 14th floor luxury apartment, including a pistol found in Mr Avayev’s hand.
The 51-year-old had previously served as Vice President for Gazprombank, Russia’s third largest bank, before he suddenly resigned.
It is unclear whether he retained ties to the bank following his departure.
Mr Avayev also had a role in Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin administration where he was head of a key department.
Multiple theories have emerged surrounding the deaths, including rumours Mr Avayev became jealous after his wife Yelena became pregnant by his driver.
However, there are conflicting reports as to whether Yelena was pregnant at all.
A female neighbour claimed Mr Avayev’s business could have been under financial stress as a result of Western sanctions imposed against Russia over the war in Ukraine.
“Perhaps this was because of the sanctions - everyone is depressed, some are willing to go to extreme measures,” she said.
“They possibly put him in debt and he decided to shoot himself,” she said.
Another neighbour refuted theories Mr Avayev was capable of murder and suggested they were killed.
“He was a nerd. He had no reason to do that. He was rich, smart. There‘s no way a man like that could kill,” she said.
“Maybe Avayev and his family were killed.
“So what does that mean? A man with a gun broke into our house, and no one stopped him? How are we supposed to sleep now?“
An investigation into the deaths is ongoing.
