[If you live in Greece then you know Papakaliatis' works. For some reason he's the artist that big producing companies trust him with a lot of money... to do the same thing over and over again. It's just ridiculous at this point. Papakaliatis' writing hasn't evolved since 2002 and he insists in acting, writing and directing his stuff even though he's barely good at it. The sad Greek reality is that 90% of our shows are trashy reality shows imported from foreign countries or trashy sitcoms of 10euros budget. So the average Greek will see "Maestro" and think to himself: "it's like a movie" because he/she's not used to basic filmmaking blocking or basic lighting of a scene.

Papakaliatis is that old guy who doesn't understand youth and what it's like to be young so he writes stereotypes trying to appeal to younger generations. Also all his projects are full in expositional dialogue because he can't tell you his story through visuals. Oh! And of course he uses the same actors in same roles saying the same things and doing the same stuff. He just repeats himself. Isn't that crazy? The saddest thing of all is that, even after all the money that he's made he never watched a tutorial on Youtube on writing plot and characters. Here's a Greek word for you: Hubris.

There's a rumor (don't know if it's true) that "Maestro" will be the first Greek production on Netflix, so if you reading this review it's because of that. After all that's the reason he changed the title of the show from the greek word for "teacher" to "Maestro" to have a more global appeal. You have to give it to the guy, at least he's trying hard at being pretentious.

And no: because the show takes place in a beautiful island, doesn't make it automatically good. That's the usual Greek scapegoat. "We can't act, write, or direct, let's take advantage of our natural resources for production value". Even the sound editing is cringe! I didn't expect to cringe at bad sound editing, but here we are.]
