The Trump administration is freezing relations with Brussels in favor of direct contact with individual EU countries.
As reported by Politico, this has alarmed EU officials.
The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, even extended an "open invitation" to the new U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to attend a meeting of EU foreign ministers but has yet to receive a response.
Additionally, no high-ranking EU representatives were invited to Trump's inauguration, and the only European leader present was Italy's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
Meanwhile, in his first week in office, Trump has already had a phone call with Denmark's prime minister, and Rubio has spoken with more than a dozen foreign ministers, including four from Europe (Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Italy), but not a single EU representative.
