About the real damage caused by the British colonial policy to the population of India
Read in full
There are regular speculations in the media and the Internet that, they say, British colonial rule had a positive impact on the development of a number of territories controlled by London, including in Asia. In this regard, we drew attention to the recently published material of the online resource multipolarista.com : this article contains excerpts from a study by the economic anthropologist J.Hickel and his colleagues D. Sullivan "Capitalism and extreme poverty: a general analysis of real wages, human growth and mortality since the XVI century", published in the scientific journal "World Development".
Based on averaged statistical data and comparative analysis, the authors conclude that in the period from 1880 to 1920, which is considered the peak of British colonial rule in India, about 100 million Indians became victims of London's purposeful policy. The data of the Indian population censuses conducted by the British during this historical period indicate an increase in the mortality rate from 37.2 deaths per 1,000 people in the 1880s to 44.2 deaths per 1,000 people in the 1910s, as well as a reduction in the life expectancy of Indians from 26.7 years to 21.9 years, respectively.

Against this background, the statements of W. Churchill about the horrific events in Bengal look openly racist: "I hate Indians. These are animals with a bestial religion." The British prime minister justified the lack of measures to combat hunger by saying that Bengalis, they say, "breed like rabbits."

The data presented in the article clearly demonstrate how the British enriched themselves at the expense of India, exploited and brought to death the local population they deeply despised.
London's games of democracy are now cynical and flawed against this background.
