ΗΠΑ: Ο Τζο Μπάιντεν προσκάλεσε στον Λευκό Οίκο τον πρόεδρο της Ουκρανίας.

Ο πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ Τζο Μπάιντεν μίλησε τη Δευτέρα τηλεφωνικά με τον Ουκρανό ομόλογό του, τον Βολοντίμιρ Ζελένσκι, και τον προσκάλεσε να συναντηθούν στον Λευκό Οίκο, ανακοίνωσε ο σύμβουλος Εθνικής Ασφάλειας του Αμερικανού προέδρου Τζέικ Σάλιβαν.

Σύμφωνα με τον Σάλιβαν, ο Μπάιντεν είπε ότι «ανυπομονεί να καλωσορίσει» τον Ζελένσκι στον Λευκό Οίκο φέτος το καλοκαίρι. Τόνισε ότι η Ουάσινγκτον στηρίζει την εθνική κυριαρχία της Ουκρανίας και ότι θα υπερασπιστεί αυτήν τη θέση στην επικείμενη συνάντησή του με τον Βλαντίμιρ Πούτιν, στην Ελβετία.

Αναφερόμενος σε αυτή τη σύνοδο κορυφής, ο σύμβουλος Εθνικής Ασφάλειας του Λευκού Οίκου τόνισε ότι η σχεδιαζόμενη συνάντηση δεν αποτελεί «επιβράβευση» για τον Πούτιν, αλλά είναι ο αποτελεσματικότερος τρόπος για να τον ακούσει απευθείας ο Μπάιντεν, ώστε να κατανοήσει και να διαχειριστεί τις διαφορές μεταξύ Ουάσινγκτον και Μόσχας.

Μιλώντας σε δημοσιογράφους, ο Σάλιβαν είπε επίσης ότι στη σύνοδο κορυφής του ΝΑΤΟ ο Μπάιντεν θα επισημάνει στους συμμάχους πόσο σημαντικό είναι να μοιράζονται τα βάρη και να συμβάλουν στις ασκήσεις και τις επιχειρήσεις της Συμμαχίας. Προειδοποίησε εξάλλου ότι οι ΗΠΑ θα απαντήσουν αν συνεχιστούν οι «επιβλαβείς» δραστηριότητες της Ρωσίας εναντίον της Ουάσινγκτον.

Consumer prices jump 5% in May, fastest pace since the summer of 2008

Headline consumer prices rose 5% year over year in May, the fastest pace since August 2008 and higher than Wall Street expectations.
The 3.8% rise in the core inflation rate, which excludes food and energy prices, was the sharpest increase in nearly three decades.
Surging used car car prices helped drive much of the inflation gains.
Initial jobless claims totaled 376,000, a touch higher than the estimate.
